An exploded view.
Column integrates custom control electronics, controlled airflow, and carefully cultivated moss to create a stable, autonomous micro-ecosystem designed to live indoors for years.
- IntakeAir is drawn through a 360° perforated brass band at the base of the cylinder.
- Pre-filterA washable mesh stops dust and large particulates before they reach the moss stack.
- BiofilterEight hydrated trays of Hypnum moss handle gases, fine particulates, and pathogens. Beneath each tray sits a sorbent media bed — colonized by the moss microbiome — that captures gases and is continuously regenerated by those same microbes.
- UV polish (optional)Moss microbes can populate the room with a healthy, diverse indoor air microbiome — most spaces benefit from leaving them in. For environments that prefer the cleanest, most sterile output, an optional UV-C ring deactivates remaining airborne pathogens and can be turned on at any time.
- ExhaustFiltered air passes through a final HEPA fibrous-media filter at the crown to remove any remaining fine particles. Because the air has already passed through every prior stage, this filter lasts substantially longer than a typical HEPA cartridge.

Every Column reports back.
Telemetry from onboard sensors streams to the BIOM Aerobiome dashboard so building managers can see exactly what each unit is doing — every minute, every floor.

Bring Columns into your building.
BIOM is actively conducting pilots that demonstrate Column at scale can dramatically reduce a building's energy footprint by reducing the need to heat and cool outdoor air. Living biofiltration allows recirculated indoor air to remain clean — cutting outdoor air changes without compromising occupant health.
Operators, owners, and architects interested in participating in a pilot are invited to write to BIOM directly.
